The final for the ATP Indian Wells is set with second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz taking on fourth-seed Daniil Medvedev. This should be a fascinating matchup as we see a repeat of the 2023 final in which Alcaraz walked away with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Medvedev to claim his first Indian Wells Open title. Both of these professionals had strong years in 2023; Spanaird Alcaraz securing six ATP titles (one Grand Slam - Wimbledon), while Russian Medvedev would win five titles of his own.

Carlos Alcaraz, who has a strong case for being the most accomplished player ever by age 20, mounted a comeback victory over the red-hot Jannik Sinner in the semi-final to claim a 2-1 victory. Doing so, Alcaraz put an end to Sinner’s incredible 16-match winning streak in 2024, dealing the Italian his first loss since November of 2023. He comes into the final with an 11-3 record in 2024 so far (9-1 on hard courts), although one of those defeats came by way of an injury in the Rio Open after just two games played. There were concerns that Alcaraz would be feeling the lingering effects of that aforementioned ankle injury, but there doesn’t appear to be any hitches in the two-time Grand Slam winners game.

Medvedev also earned a come-from-behind victory in the semi-final to secure his spot in the Indian Wells Open final. The 28-year-old dropped the first set to American Tommy Paul before going on to win the next two 7-6, 6-2 for the 2-1 win. It was only the second set that Medvedev had lost in this tournament (similar to Alcaraz), after overcoming Holger Rune, Grigor Dimitrov, Sebastian Korda and Roberto Carballes Baena in the rounds prior to the semi-finals. This is the second final that Daniil Medvedev has made in the 2024 season after previously finishing as the runner-up in the Australian Open to Jannik Sinner. The Russian is 14-2 in his 16 matches played so far this year, all of which have come on hard court surfaces.
