World number 11 Danielle Collins is the top seed in the hard court Monterrey Open. Her first match of the week sees her take on unseeded Erika Andreeva with the winner facing either Lulu Sun or Maria Lourdes Carle in the next round. Here's our match prediction.
The 30-year-old has already announced that this year will be her last as a professional player. Her career is certainly not going out with a whimper as the American has already won two titles this year, including the hard court Miami tournament.
This is her first tournament since the Paris Olympics. Collins got to the last eight in Paris but had to retire from her match against Iga Swiatek in the deciding set. It takes a good player to beat Coliins as all but one of her last nine losses have been to top 16 ranked players.
Erika Andreeva is at 89th in the latest rankings but up five places in the live list. The 20-year-old beat fellow unseeded player Anna Kalinina in the first round losing just five games in the two sets played. That's a return to form after losing in the Cincinnati qualifiers.
On hard courts this year, the Russian has failed to reach a quarter-final this year. This is only her second match against Collins after losing to her in the first round at Indian Wells. It was a straight sets defeat but both went to a tie-break.
