Ten Indian Premier League (IPL) titles between them, but Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians face a tough battle to remain alive in the 2026 edition's playoff race. This El Clasico match of the IPL between the 6th-placed CSK and the 9th-placed MI at the Chepauk Stadium on Saturday comes with our prediction of a home win.
With six points (W3, L5), CSK are two points behind Gujarat Titans before the game on Thursday. Mumbai have only four points (W2, L6), and just Lucknow Super Giants are below them in the points tally.
Chennai are coming off an eight-wicket loss to Gujarat Titans last Sunday, where they could just make 158 on the back of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 74 runs. Their bowlers were all over the place, though, and the chase was done by 16.4 overs.
Batting remains CSK’s worry, as only Sanju Samson (304 runs) remains their representative in the top-30 batsmen of the season. It’s slightly better for the bowlers, with Anshul Kamboj (14 wickets) being the fourth best bowler of the season.
Mumbai lost to Hyderabad by six wickets in the heavy-scoring thriller at the Wankhede on Wednesday. Ryan Rickelton’s century (123) helped them to 243, but every bowler failed to contain Hyderabad’s batsmen. In fact, only Allah Ghazanfar (ten wickets) remains in the top 30 best bowlers of this IPL season.
