Game 61 of 74 in the Indian Premier League will see the Chennai Super Kings face off against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The IPL table is still wide open, with literally any side still in with a chance of qualifying for the knockout rounds if they are able to put together a solid run of results in their last few matches. The Chennai Super Kings have gotten themselves right in the thick of it and are currently second, one point behind the current leaders, the Titans, though they have played one more match than the defending champions. CSK won their last match against the Delhi Capitals fairly comfortably despite posting a relatively average target of 167/8 in their 20 overs. However, the bowling strength of Matheesha Pathirana, Deepak Chahar, and Ravindra Jadeja choked the Capitals and confined them to just 140/8 to win by 27 runs. CSK have now managed seven wins, four losses, and a no-result in their 12 matches and come into this one unbeaten in their last three. The hosts will be confident that they are in good enough all-round form to get the win here but will have to be better than they were in their last match to overcome a stronger opponent in KKR. 

Meanwhile, the Knight Riders come into this match following a crushing defeat to the Rajasthan Royals, who dispatched the visitors by 9 wickets and 41 balls to spare in their last match. KKR are now in seventh place in the IPL standings with 10 points and a record of five wins and seven losses in 12 matches to date. Having already played 12 matches so far, this is a must-win match for KKR if they want to keep their hopes alive of qualifying for the knockout rounds with as many as four sides already on 12 or more points. Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh have been the best players for KKR in this tournament, with the pair scoring over 700 runs between them in this tournament. However, while the visitors have been decent with the bat, their bowling has failed to impress, with only Varun Chakaravarthy registering figures of any note, currently sitting in sixth place in the purple cap standings. Heading to the MA Chidambaram Stadium is never an easy fixture, and KKR will need to put on one of their best performances of the tournament in this one, or they could be bowing out with one match to go.
