The semi finals of the 2023 Lyon Open are here and first seed Caroline Garcia and world number 73 Camila Osorio will for the first time in their careers face off in one of the semis, on Saturday. The match will be played on an indoor hard court with the winner proceeding to a first final in the W250 tournament to face either Alycia Parks or Maryna Zanevska. Garcia has appeared in all four editions in Lyon and made the semi-finals in last year’s tournament. The world number five has been in good form in 2023 where she has won eight of her 10 matches. Aside from reaching the last four in Lyon, the French number one also made it to the second week of competition at the Australian Open where she reached the fourth round for only the second time in her career. She also made it to the quarter-finals at Adelaide 2. In Lyon, she has breezed past her opponents and has only dropped one set in three matches. The 2022 WTA Finals champion is currently in eighth place on the Live WTA Race standings and can move up to seventh if she wins on Saturday.

Camila Osorio is in a similar form to Garcia with only one set dropped in three matches in Lyon. The Colombian number one defeated fast-rising star Linda Noskova in straight sets to progress to this round, taking just one hour and 32 minutes. It was the shortest time that she has been on a court in Lyon with her previous two matches going past the two-hour mark. She hasn’t been as active as Garcia in 2023 but has won four of her five matches. She is up to 60th place on the Live WTA Ranking and can move up to 54th with a win on Saturday.
