Carlos Alcaraz is seeking to advance to his third final of the season but will first have to deal with the challenge of Jannik Sinner when the two meet in the semifinals of the Indian Wells Open on Sunday. Number one seed Carlos Alcaraz had a belated start to the season due to injury. He has however looked every bit of the player that had a breakout year in 2022 that saw him ascend to the top of the world ranking. He began his season in Buenos Aires and went all the way to win it all, defeating Cameron Norrie in the final. The two players would duel again in the final of the Rio Open but this time, it was Norrie who ended up victorious after Alcaraz suffered an injury during the match. That loss did little to deter Alcaraz from his quest of regaining the world’s number-one spot, relinquished due to his inactivity in the early stages of the season, as he has blitzed past his opponents here and is yet to drop a set.

Jannik Sinner is also having an amazing season. The Italian has already tasted title success by winning the Montpellier Open and was a losing finalist in Rotterdam. He also made it through to the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time in his career. At Indian Wells, the current world number 13, has been a giant killer, eliminating the likes of Stan Wawrinka and Taylor Fritz. He beat Fritz in three sets in the quarterfinals which was the first time he was losing a set in the tournament. He has had his successes against Alcaraz in the past and will fancy his chances even more thanks to how he has performed in the lead-up to this match. The match will be played on an outdoor hard court and will be the sixth meeting between the two. The winner will set up a final showdown with either Daniil Medvedev or Frances Tiafoe.
