Carlos Alcaraz has made a strong start to the defence of his men's singles title. The Wimbledon champion faces the 29th seed Frances Tiafoe in the last 32. In the fourth round, the winner will take on either 16th seed Ugo Humbert or unseeded Brandon Nakashima.

Alcaraz is seeded third for this grass court Grand Slam and in the same half of the draw as top seeded Jannik Sinner. He's played two matches this week against Mark Lajal and Aleksandar Vukic and is yet to drop a set.

The Spaniard played just one warm-up tournament and lost to Jack Draper at Queen's Club. These two players have had a couple of previous meetings. It's 1-1 between them but the last match was played at the 2022 US Open with Alcaraz winning in five sets. This is their first meeting on a grass court.

Frances Tiafoe is the world number 29 and still in that position in the live rankings. In the ATP Race, the American is up to 41st, that's 38 places below his opponent. This is the fourth year in a row he's made it to the third round at Wimbledon.

His best performance has been getting to round four in 2022. Two pre-Wimbledon grass court tournaments were played and he reached the last eight in Stuttgart. It wasn't so good for him at Queen's Club as he had to retire from his match against RInky Hijikata.

This week began with him going two sets to love down to Matteo Arnaldi. He then lost just seven games in the remaining three sets. Round two saw him beat Borna Coric in straight sets. We tip Alcaraz to win this in straight sets, don't be surprised if there's a tie-break played.
