Third seed Daniil Medvedev and second seed Carlos Alcaraz will on Friday battle in their final round-robin match at the ATP Finals. The two are competing in the Red Group where Medvedev currently sits top and Alcaraz third. Carlos Alcaraz earned his first victory in the championship last time out. He defeated Andrey Rublev in straight sets to bounce back from his opening round 2-1 loss to Alexander Zverev. Alcaraz now has to win here to give himself a chance at qualifying for the semifinals. The top two at the end of the group stage proceed to the next round. Alcaraz has struggled to get going on indoor hard courts this season. He has managed only one win in three outings. But as he has defeated Medvedev twice this season, he will be confident of getting the job done here.

Daniil Medvedev has also defeated Alcaraz twice in their four previous meetings. He won the last time they met, which was in the semifinals at the US Open two months ago. The 2020 ATP Finals champion will be confident of taking the lead in this series as he has dominated on indoor hard courts. Medvedev has won 11 of the 13 matches he has played on the surface. This has resulted in one title and one runner-up finish. The Russian has won both his matches in Turin and has done so without dropping a set. Rublev was defeated in the first round then Zverev last time out. Medvedev and Alcaraz are the two players to have won the most number of matches in 2023. This is therefore bound to be a cracker of a match with Medvedev probably relinquishing his first set of the tournament.
