Fourth seed Brandon Nakashima will play unseeded Rinky Hijikata in the Hangzhou Open quarter-finals. The two will face off on Sunday. Below are stats and our prediction for this match.

Brandon Nakashima had a nervy start to his campaign, needing a decider to overcome qualifier Coleman Wong. In a match that lasted two hours and 40 minutes, he had to dig deep to secure the win. The match saw a tiebreaker played in the opening two sets.

Nakashima is having a superb season. He has won 58 matches alternating between the tour and challenger circuits. One of his wins came on clay in Houston against Hijikata – their first career meeting and he won in straight sets.

The American has now moved two places in the live ranking, to 37th, a new career high.

Rinky Hijikata earned a walkover from Fabian Marozsan in the second round. With ample time now to prepare for this last eight battle, he will be confident of a win. 

The Australian, who is having an inconsistent year, needed a decider to get past the first round against Damir Dzumhur. Hijikata has lost 28 matches this season, which is four more losses than his 24 wins.

Also alternating between the tour and challenger circuits, he hasn’t been able to progress past the quarter-finals this year. He has suffered five quarter-final losses with four coming at tour level.

The 23-year-old is now placed 76th in the live ranking after making a five-place leap by advancing to this round. 

The winner here will battle Holger Rune, Yasutaka Uchiyama, Marin Cilic or Yoshihito Nishioka next.
