Fifth seed Andrey Rublev faces qualifier Brandon Nakashima in round three of the Rogers Cup. A win will take the victor into the quarter-finals of this hard court Masters event in Montreal. Read our match prediction.

Rublev is up to sixth in the live rankings but can’t move up any higher this week. The Russian has had an up and down year in 2024. He got off to a great start with a title win in Hong Kong and then at least the quarter-finals in his next four hard court events. His form dipped during the summer but has picked up in recent weeks. His last tournament saw him get to the last eight in Washington.

This week has gone well for him so far with a straight sets victory over the Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry in his opening match. He’s 1-1 in previous matches with Nakashima but did win their only meeting on a hard court.

World number 52 is up four places in the live rankings and had to qualify to get into the Montreal main draw. The American won both of his qualifying matches in straight sets. So far in the main draw, he’s beaten Denis Shapovalov in straight sets and then tenth-seeded Tommy Paul in three.

He lost the second on a tie-break but then only had one game taken off him in the decider. We tip Rublev to win this match.
