Belgium will kick off their EuroBasket Women title defence against Portugal at Sportovni hala Vodova in Brno on Thursday afternoon. The Belgian Cats are the number six seed in the competition, while Team Portugal is seeded 40th. Let’s get into the match prediction.
Belgium are one of the favourites to win this tournament alongside France and Spain. They have enjoyed an impressive few years, finishing fourth at the Olympic Games in 2024, while claiming bronze in this competition in 2021 and gold in the last edition.
The Belgian Cats qualified for the 2025 EuroBasket competition by winning their group, which featured Lithuania, Poland and Azerbaijan, with a record of five victories and one loss in six.
The champs have undergone intense preparation for their title defence, playing five friendlies in the last month, winning four, with the only exception being a defeat to France at the start of June.
Meanwhile, Portugal is set to make their first appearance at EuroBasket, having failed to qualify for the tournament in 15 previous attempts dating back to 1995.

Since then, the Portuguese side has played four matches and lost to Spain and Slovenia before picking up back-to-back wins against Switzerland, with both victories coming in the last week.
