Australia will look to make it to their first ICC Women’s T20 World Cup since 2023 when they face the West Indies in the first semifinal of the 2026 edition on Tuesday at the Oval in London. The winner of this match between the Southern Stars and the Windies will face the winner of England vs South Africa in the final. Will that be the five-time champions from down under or the 2016 champions from the Caribbean?
With five wins out of five, Australia topped Group A, with all their victories being comprehensive. The Windies finished second in Group B (W3, L2) with only net run rate seeing them finish above Sri Lanka.
Australia looked troubled against India in the 171-run chase on Sunday but eventually reached there with an over to spare. It was an eighth consecutive T20I win for the ‘Southern Stars,' a run that started against the Windies in March. Ellyse Perry has been in sparkling form (183 runs, 2x50), while Sophie Molineux (eight wickets) has been their best bowler.
The Windies started with three wins, but consecutive defeats took the sheen off their campaign. If they want to be a threat, the Windies will need Shemaine Campbelle (154 runs) to fire with the bat and Hayley Matthews (115 runs, nine wickets) to excel in both departments.
