The tricky Group A in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will start with favourites Australia taking on underdogs South Africa in Manchester on Saturday. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands are the other members in this group from which the top two teams advance to the knockouts. While Australia remain favourites to win here, South African captain Laura Wolvaardt is likely to resist, and our prediction backs her to score more than 25.5 runs.
Australia are a record six-time champions in this tournament, although they crashed out of the semis last time, losing to South Africa, who finished as runners-up. In fact, the South African women have been the losing finalists in the last two editions.
The ‘Southern Stars’ warmed up with wins over England and the West Indies. They come into this tournament armed with ten wins from their last 12 matches and with a strong motive to recapture the title. New captain Sophie Molineux will look to cover the void left by Alyssa Healy’s retirement.
The Proteas will look to make it tougher for Australia but were beaten by New Zealand in their last warm-up match. They come with four wins from their last five competitive T20Is (L1), but nine defeats in 11 matches against Australia in this format underline the challenge ahead of them.

Our Australia vs South Africa Prediction
This is the group of death because one of Australia, South Africa, or India will be knocked out. South Africa have been the perennial bridesmaid and have reached the last three finals across white-ball tournaments, but can they start well? Australia may be transitioning and are not defending a crown but are strong contenders to go all the way, if not top this group.
We are diving into the individual market, so our Australia vs South Africa prediction is Laura Wolvaardt over 25.5 runs.
