Top seed Aryna Sabalenka will face off with the unseeded Elsa Jacquemot as she continues with her quest for a first French Open title. Their first career meeting will be in the second round, with our prediction backing Sabalenka for win number 29 for the season.

Sabalenka defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the first round in straight sets. It was her first win following a shock elimination in the third round at the Italian Open.

The world number one has been the top performer in the WTA this season. She has, however, produced some shocking results recently. Before her elimination in Rome, Sabalenka had been dumped out in Madrid in the quarter-finals.

The Belarusian, who lost in the final in Paris last term, has compiled a 28-3 record and already won three titles.

Elsa Jacquemot looked comfortable in the opening round as she defeated the qualifier Linda Fruhvirtova in straights.

The Frenchwoman arrived for her sixth French Open appearance while on a five-match losing streak. Jacquemot has struggled for form this year, winning just six times in 21 outings.

This form has led to her tumbling down the world rankings and is now ranked 78th after an 11-place drop. The 23-year-old made it to the third round in last year’s French major, which was her best performance.
