Argentina face their first higher-ranked opponents of the Nations Championship when they welcome England to Estadio Unico Madre de Ciudades on Saturday. Los Pumas sit two places below England in the world rankings and have lost nine of their last 10 matches against higher-ranked opponents, leading us to back an England victory in our prediction.
Argentina have fallen two places in the world rugby rankings after just two rounds in the Nations Championship campaign. They ceded the sixth spot to Scotland after a shock nine-point defeat at home in Round 1. Despite bouncing back with a 35–21 victory over 12th-ranked Wales last week, Los Pumas found themselves slipping further down the pecking order after England’s 65-point rout of Fiji.
With just 0.72 points separating them from England and 0.06 from Scotland, Felipe Contepomi’s side could reclaim their lost ranking positions with victory. However, they have suffered defeats in nine of their last 10 encounters with teams in the world’s top five.
England ended their lengthy losing run in style last week by demolishing Fiji 73–8 to record the biggest victory in the Nations Championship so far. They have now put together an impressive 19 wins across their last 21 meetings with lower-ranked opponents. Steve Borthwick’s side will be confident of sustaining that momentum on Saturday. They have won each of their last five meetings with Argentina.

Our Argentina vs England Prediction
This is a key match for both teams, who will be looking to continue their winning ways after successfully bouncing back from their opening-round defeats. Argentina are slightly on the back foot despite expected home advantage. They have struggled for results against higher-ranked teams.
England boast a strong head-to-head record against lower-ranked opponents and have dominated Argentina in recent meetings between the two sides. There is little to suggest Saturday's clash will be any different. Our Argentina vs England prediction: England wins.
