Antonia Ruzic is having quite the campaign in Dubai and has made it to the quarter-finals, where she will battle seventh seed Elina Svitolina. This is their first career meeting. Read on for our prediction of the match.

Ruzic is having quite the week and will fancy her chances of advancing to a first tour semi-final. The Croat had been eliminated in the preliminaries but received a lifeline to feature in the main draw as a lucky loser.

She has grabbed that opportunity with both hands, winning three matches. The highlight of Ruzic’s week came in the third round as she defeated top seed and world number three Elena Rybakina.

The 23-year-old won the first set and was ahead in the decider when Rybakina was forced to retire with an injury. It was the biggest win of her career, and following the success, Ruzic has shot up 16 places in the live ranking to 51st.

Elina Svitolina had to come from behind to defeat Belinda Bencic in the last round in three sets. She had defeated Paula Badosa in straights as she began her week.

The world number nine has now won 12 of 14 matches and looks primed to return to the summit in Dubai. Svitolina is a two-time Dubai champion, but hasn’t made it as far as the semi-finals since 2019.

This year’s Auckland champion, Svitolina, also made it to the semi-finals of the Australian Open.
