World number 36 Paula Badosa and 13th seed Anna Kalinskaya will meet in the second round of the Cincinnati Open. Their first career encounter will see the winner set up a third-round duel against Cori Gauff or Yulia Putintseva. Read on for our preview and prediction of the match.

Kalinskaya has never progressed past the second round in Cincinnati. She lost on her debut in the first round, then in the second round in her last appearance two years ago.

Being in terrific form this year, especially on hard courts, she will be confident of sailing through here. Kalinskaya has compiled a strong 31-14 record this year, registering 21 of her wins on hard courts. The most recent of them was a three-set victory over Katerina Siniakova in the first round.

The Russian produced two runner-up finishes in Dubai and Berlin this year and has moved up to 15th in the live ranking.

Just like Kalinskaya, Paula Badosa did not play in Cincinnati last year due to an injury. She qualified for the quarter-finals on her debut campaign three years ago but was eliminated in the second round the following year.

As she has enjoyed most of her tour success in the US, the Spaniard will be confident of a deep run here. Badosa has been in terrific form since the season switched back to hard courts. She has won seven of her last eight matches.

This sublime run started in Washington where she triumphed to claim her first tour title in two years. Currently placed 35th in the live ranking, Badosa began her campaign in Cincinnati with a 2-0 victory over the wildcard Peyton Stearns.
