Alexei Popyrin was a quarter-finalist in the recent Canadian Open, a tournament he won last year. He didn't make it two successive titles but it took world number three Alexander Zverev to beat him. Before that, the Australian had beaten Holger Rune and Daniil Medvedev.
Popyrin beat Martin Landaluce in straight sets in his one match this week. He's dropped down to 36th in the live rankings after losing the points from that 2024 Canadian Open title.
