Only Novak Djokovic has ever retained the Paris Masters title. Second seeded Daniil Medvedev won this tournament last year and faces Alexander Zverev (seeded fourth) in the semi-finals. Medvedev has won four titles this year, notably the US Open where he beat Novak Djokovic, denying him a fourth Grand Slam win of the year. The Russian has only failed to make the semi-final once in five tournaments and has only dropped one set on his way to this last four match. He's had wins over Ilya Ivashka, Sebastian Korda (after going a set down) and qualifier Hugo Gaston. Medvedev trails Zverev 5-4 in previous meetings. However, he's won four of the last five and the last three, most recently when being one half of the Russian team that won the ATP Cup.

Alexander Zverev has also had a successful year with five titles being won. That's taken him up to fourth in the rankings, two places behind his opponent. Zverev comes into this tournament fresh from winning in Vienna last week. That made it three titles in five tournaments, including the Olympic Gold Medal. This week has seen the German (who like his opponent has clinched his place in the ATP Tour Finals) has beaten Dusan Lajovic, Grigor Dimitrov (in three sets) and Casper Ruud. This should be a tight match, go for Medvedev to get the win and have a side bet on a tie-break as Zverev has had three this week).
