There were no surprises as Engel Justin and Alex Michelsen sailed through their respective first-round matches at the Boss Open. The two have set up a second-round clash, with the winner set to face Felix Auger-Aliassime or Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Below we have a prediction for the match.
Seventh seed Michelsen rose from a run of three straight defeats in beating Gael Monfils in the first round. The American lost the middle set but recovered to secure the win, his first on grass but 18th of the season.
This already is his best performance in Stuttgart. On his debut in 2024, he exited in the first round.
Engel also battled through three sets in his first-round match, beating James Duckworth after losing the opening set. The German teenager is only playing in a main draw of the ATP tour for the third time this season.
All those events happen to have been in Germany. He didn’t last more than a game at the Munich Open, but in Hamburg, he reached the second round.
This time around he will be looking to last at least three matches. His season has mostly been spent in the ITF and Challenger events.
