11th seed Alex de Minaur is up against unseeded Tallon Griekspoor in round two of the Monte Carlo Masters. Whoever is the victor in this match will face either unseeded Alexi Popyrin or the sixth seed and defending champion Andrey Rublev. De Minaur took on Stan Wawrinka in the first round of this outdoor clay court tournament. He won that in convincing fashion and only lost three games, all in the first set. The Australian is up to tenth in the live rankings. It's been a good year for him and he's sixth in the Live ATP Race. A win for de Minaur would take him into the third round in Monte Carlo for the first time in his career. Another first would be a victory over Griekspoor. He's lost both of their previous meetings but they were played on an indoor hard court.

Tallon Griekspoor is 24th in the live rankings. He went up a couple of places after beating Dominik Koepfer in round one. It took him three sets to get the win, losing the middle set. The Dutchman is 29th in the ATP Live Race but hasn't got the best of clay court records on the ATP Tour. He'd never made it past round one in Monte Carlo before beating Koepfer after two previous losses. Only once this year has he got past the last 32 of a tournament.
