Round one of the hard court Chengdu Open sees Aleksandar Vukic take on Borna Coric.. Here’s our match prediction.
Vukic is 92nd in the rankings, well below the career-high of 48th the Australian achieved last year. He’s 86th in the ATP Live Race, His form is inconsistent with two successive losses, most recently in the US Open first round.
Only three of his last 11 matches played on hard courts have been won. His best form this year has been on grass with only four out of his 16 main draw ATP Tour matches on this surface having been won in 2024.
To reach round two, Borna Coric must beat Vukic for the first time. Their only previous meeting was in the hard court Rogers Cup last year with the Australian winning in straight sets.
Coric is down at 97th in the latest ranking list but three places ahead of Vukic in the Live ATP Race. The Croatian has also lost his last two matches, both played on this surface. The most recent loss was in round one of the US Open to Adrian Mannarino.
He did show some form in WInston Salem though with a win over top 25 ranked Sebastian Baez on his way to the last 16. Coric also beat Pedro Martinez in the Rogers Cup this year and will face him again if winning this match.
