Alejandro Tabilo lost to Baez in the Santiago final two seasons ago. It remains their most recent showdown, and he will be keen to avenge that loss and move himself closer to being crowned champion.

The Chilean is coming off a hard fought second round battle. Facing the unseeded Thiago Agustin Tirante, Tabilo fought his way to win via a decider after losing the first set. He has now registered 13 of his 16 wins this season on clay.

Tabilo, who arrived in Santiago after finishing as runner-up in Rio, has moved up to 40th in the live ranking.

Sebastian Baez has made a negative jump in the live ranking despite advancing to the last eight this week. The Argentine has dropped five places to 57th after losing 115 points.

Baez has qualified for at least the semi-finals in each of his last four appearances in Santiago. He lost in the final last year, falling just short of successive triumphs.

The 25-year-old has won 11 of 15 outings and is 3-2 on clay. A finalist in Auckland at the start of the year, Baez was a semi-finalist in Buenos Aires two weeks ago.
