An unseeded player will be in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina takes on Grigor Dimitrov in the first of the semi-finals. Davidovich- Fokina has had a stellar week in Monte Carlo with wins over Marcos Giron, world number one Novak Djokovic, David Goffin and in his quarter final, the tenth seed Taylor Fritz after dropping the first set. Those last three wins have seen him beat the world number one and winners of recent tournaments in Marrakech and Indian Wells. He began the week ranked 46th but is up to 32nd in the live rankings and that equals his highest ever ranking. A win over Dimitrov will see him rise to 27th. This is his first semi-final in Monte Carlo having reached the last eight here last year.

World number Grigor Dimitrov stands between him and the final. Dimitrov is up six places in the live rankings and reaching the final will see him up to 20th. He's in his second semi-final in the Monte Carlo Masters and will be glad there's no Rafa Nadal this year. The Spaniard has beaten him four times here and is the only player since 2017 to beat Dimitrov in this tournament. He's in his second semi-final of the year, the other being in a pre-Australian Open tournament held in Melbourne. Dimitrov has has beaten Nikoloz Basilashvili (the 15th seed), Dusan Lajovic, fourth seeded Casper Ruud and in the quarter final, 11th seed Hubert Hurkacz in three sets. He's only had one previous match against his opponent. That was on clay in Rome last year with Davidovich-Fokina winning in straight sets. He's the one in the best form and can beat Dimitrov.
