Jannik Sinner Ends Terrence Atamane’s Unicorn Run To Reach The Cincinnati Finals
World No.1 Jannik Sinner has the chance to defend his Cincinnati ATP title after bagging a hard-fought win against dark horse No. 136 Terrence Atmane. Sinner won 7-6 (4), 6-2, keeping his 26-match unbeaten run alive, while raising his all-time tally to 200 ATP victories on a hardcourt. See our Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz prediction here.
However, Atmane didn't go down without a fight. The Frenchman hit six aces with 78% serve accuracy to force the game into a tiebreak, but Sinner would come out on top.
Despite the exit, Atmane’s run in the tournament is one for the newspapers. Joining a qualifier, the left-hander won seven matches in nine days, including back-to-back upsets against world No. 4 Taylor Fritz and world No.9 Holger Rune. No other qualifier has made it to the semifinals since 2015.
On top of that, Atmane entered the tournament with just five tour-level wins to his name. But he leaves with 10 and a spot in the ATP Top 100 for the first time in his career.
Back to Sinner, the spotlight will be on him to clinch back-to-back men’s singles in Cincinnati, etching his name in history books as the first tennis player since Federer in 2014, 2015 to do so.
Carlos Alcaraz is Hungry for Revenge and Glory in Cincinnati
Carlos Alcaraz heads into the Cincinnati final with everything to prove. Just two years ago, he lost a heart-wrenching but memorable three-set to Novak Djokovic despite being the No.1 seed. 2024 wasn’t friendly either, as the Spaniard got bounced in the round of 32.
However, Alcaraz is finally back in a final in Cincinnati, marking seven back-to-back tour-level finals for him.In the semifinal clash, Alcatraz made light work of an ailing Alexander Zverev, winning 6-4, 6-3. Zverev, who needed medical treatment in his quarterfinal against Ben Shelton, was having trouble breathing during the second set and requested another medical timeout.
Carlos Alcaraz’s 16-match win form says enough about his dominance on hardcourts, but our experts believe he must dig deep into his bag of tricks to overcome reigning champion Sinner.
When he steps onto the hard court against Sinner, it will mark Alcaraz’s 29th tour final and his 9th at the ATP Masters level. This matchup also represents their fourth meeting in a tour final in 2025, after Alcaraz defeated the No.1 at Rome and Roland Garros.
