The Davis Cup Finals, termed the “World Cup of tennis” by its organizers, officially kicks off the playoff stage with a quarterfinal matchup between France and Belgium on Tuesday. The defending champions, Italy, face Austria on Wednesday. And then Thursday brings us the final two games, featuring Spain vs Czechia and Argentina vs Germany.

France vs Belgium: Davis Cup Quarterfinal Opener

The in-form France seek a semifinal spot against Belgium, whom they've overcome in their past two Davis Cup meetings. France is eager to make it past this round after failing to do so since 2017, the year the national team last won the Davis Cup finals. Read our France vs Belgium prediction to see what our tennis expert thing of that match-up.

Although France is missing Hugo Humbert due to injury, the 29th-ranked Arthur Rinderknech plays alongside Benjamin Bonzi and Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who boast an impressive 14-4 record in the Davis Cup. The in-form France are now hunting for their 11th Davis Cup trophy against a Belgium side that's struggled in its qualifier run-up.

Whereas France beat Brazil 4-0 and then Croatia 3-1, Belgium needed a 3-2 win over Australia after their opening day win over Chile (3-1). In truth, France is the favourite to win as they boast not only of the better players but also a higher ranking (6th) over Belgium (11th). France's record in the tournament is also superior, with a 178-97 run compared to Belgium’s 106-102 record.

Still, Belgium is determined to make it to the semifinals over their bitter rival, and they have the team. The 43rd-ranked Zizou Bergs and 86th-ranked Raphael Collignon are formidable enough to take the singles and book a place in the final eight for Belgium.
