The struggling last-place Washington Wizards take to the court at home against the sixth-placed Sacramento Kings on Thursday. Washington’s 11-58 mark has them officially as the worst team in the league and bottom of the Eastern Conference pile. The Kings, meanwhile, currently occupy a top six seed thanks to their 40-28 record which would see them earn an automatic playoff berth. 

It’s been an extremely difficult season for Wizards fans and players as they have already likely started to look towards the offseason and the 2024/25 campaign. They were recently able to put an end to a franchise worst 16 game losing streak less than two weeks ago, which resulted in Washington winning two straight. They’ve since returned to their losing ways however and have now dropped their last five in a row. Washington’s last outing was a 137-114 home loss to the Rockets on Tuesday. The high points total allowed is nothing new for this team as the Wizards defense is giving up the most in the NBA at 124.2 points per game as well as the highest opponent shooting percentage at 50.1%.

The Kings are involved in a tight race for one of the top six spots to avoid the play-in tournament. Sacramento surprised the NBA last season as they made the playoffs for the first time in 16 years with their 48-34 record earning them the three seed. They currently hold a slim half game lead over seventh-place Dallas and lead the eighth-placed Suns by one game in what is sure to be a race that comes down to the final days of the season. The Kings come into this contest off the back of a blowout 123-89 win over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. This puts them in a potentially tough spot as they play the second leg of a back-to-back and their third game in the last four days.
