An Eastern Conference matchup in the NBA on Friday evening sees the 14th-place Washington Wizards hosting the 15th-placed Detroit Pistons. These are the two worst teams in the league record wise with Washington having a 14-59 mark while the Pistons have a 12-61 record.

The Wizards come into this matchup following a 122-119 overtime defeat to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. The result snapped what was Washington’s longest winning streak of the 2023/24 campaign at three games. Despite shooting over 50% from the field and 40% from three, Washington were unable to overcome their opponents and extend the winning run to four games. Even with the loss, the Wizards’ positive surge of form lately has seen them overtake Detroit for as they now sit two games ahead of the Pistons in the standings. The team has also shown a dramatic improvement in their defense in recent games, an area that Washington has struggled with all season (NBA most 123.4 point allowed per game). 

The Pistons come into this contest following a 106-91 away loss to the Timberwolves. The defeat marked Detroit’s eighth loss in a row as they now sit dead-last in the standings with a .164 winning percentage. The Pistons’ offense has been ice-cold during this losing streak where they have failed to crack the 100-point mark in four of their eight games and have averaged only 98.3 during this stretch. A number of injuries certainly haven’t helped Detroit with players like Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson, Isaiah Stewart and Quentin Grimes all missing time recently. Cunningham and Ivey are both listed as questionable for this matchup, while the latter three names are all confirmed as out for the trip to Washington.
