Heading to Asia this year for the Men's World Volleyball Championship, to be held in the Philippines from 12 to 28 September 2025. The 32 best nations in the world will be competing for gold in Manila, following in the footsteps of Italy, who won in 2022.

World Volleyball Championship 2025 winner prediction: who will be crowned world champion?
The 2025 World Volleyball Championships are shaping up to be a very open affair, with 3 nations standing out from the rest as they go in search of the world title in the Philippines.
Reigning world champions Italy will be in the hunt for another world title. Recent finalists at the VNL, the Squadra Azzurra will be led by their stars Simone Gianelli and Alessandro Michieletto, and there's no doubt that, as always, the Transalpine team will be there.
Two-time winners in 2014 and 2018, as well as European champions in 2023 and Olympic runners-up in 2024, Poland will be the favourites for these 2025 World Volleyball Championships. After winning the VNL 2025 at the beginning of August, the Polish team made a big impression under Wilfredo Leon. And with a squad built for gold, Poland will be a force to be reckoned with at this competition.
Last but not least, the French team is one of the favourites for the 2025 World Championships. The two-time Olympic champions are on their way to a last dance with the generation of N'Gapeth, Toniutti, Le Goff and Grebennikov, who are looking for a podium finish at the World Championships, the only competition missing from the French team's list of achievements. Les Bleus will be at full strength for these 2025 World Volleyball Championships, and on a mission, our French team could do something big!

With all due respect to the 4 nations in Group A, this is probably the weakest group in the first round of the 2025 Volleyball World Championships. Nevertheless, with more experience at the highest level, Iran are the overwhelming favourites for top spot, and Amin's team-mates should be able to emerge unscathed. Behind them, the second ticket in the group should be decided between Tunisia and Egypt, with the Egyptians, the reigning African champions, slightly ahead.

Group B | Romania - Poland - Netherlands - Qatar
Having beaten the VNL in August, Poland can make a smooth start to these World Championships with a group that is well within their reach. With first place promised to the Olympic runners-up, the suspense will lie behind with the second ticket expected to be hotly contested, with the advantage going to the Netherlands, who are better equipped than Romania to reach the Round of 16 and are used to high-level encounters.

Group C | France - Finland - Argentina - South Korea
The French team will have to be very wary in this first round. On paper, Les Bleus are favourites and should be able to finish in first place, provided they are up to scratch in the first week. But Earvin NGapeth's team-mates are determined to go in search of a world medal, and they should be there. Sebastian Sole's Argentina should accompany the French into the next round, with the South Americans superior to the Finns and Koreans in every respect.

Group D | Portugal - USA - Cuba - Colombia
First place in Group D is likely to be hotly contested between the United States and Cuba. The Americans have decided to skip the VNL and the likes of Christenson, Anderson and Co will be back for these Volleyball Worlds 2025. With their full squad, the bronze medallists from the last Olympics should be able to get the better of the Cubans, who are still shaky at times.

Group E | Bulgaria - Germany - Slovenia - Chile
This is possibly the group of death in this first round, with 3 teams vying for two places. Semi-finalists at the last VNL, Slovenia will have a target on their backs as Toncek Stern's team start as favourites on paper. Behind them, Germany (quarter-finalists at the 2024 Olympics) should be able to get away with it, even though the Bulgaria of the Nikolov brothers, Simeon and Aleksandar, made a strong impression at the last Volleyball Nations League. However, if the Germans have any experience, they could accompany Slovenia into the next round.

Group G | Turkey - Japan - Canada - Libya
Quarter-finalists at the last Olympic Games, Japan will be one of the opponents that everyone will want to avoid at these Volleyball Worlds 2025. The Japanese national team, now coached by Laurent Tillie (gold medallist with the EDF in Tokyo), is above them in Group G, with Yuki Ishikawa's partners expected to take top spot. On the other hand, Canada and Turkey are likely to go head-to-head for the second ticket, with the advantage going to the Canadians, who put in some fine performances at the Olympics and the VNL.

Pool H is one of the most homogenous groups in the first round of the 2025 Volleyball World Championships. On paper, Brazil should make no mistake and, barring an accident, should win this group. For 2nd place, the Czech Republic, Serbia and China will all have something to play for. Despite a totally unsuccessful VNL, the Serbs look capable of qualifying for the last 16, with individual players (Ivovic, Luburic) who should enable the Balkan country to accompany the Brazilians into the next round.

Beginner Guide - How does the World Volleyball Championship work?
The World Volleyball Championships are held every 4 years, and this year will take place in the Philippines from 12 to 28 September 2025. This year, 32 nations will be invited to the party, divided into 8 groups for the first round.
This first phase will be played from 12 to 18 September 2025, with 8 groups of 4 nations. At the end of the 3 matches, the two best teams will qualify for the Round of 16. A 3-0 or 3-1 win earns 3 points, a tie-break win (3-2) earns 2 points, a tie-break loss (2-3) earns 1 point, and a 1-3 or 0-3 loss earns no points.
The knockout phase begins on Saturday 20 September, with the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final on 28 September in Manila, not forgetting the bronze medal match.
