Roman Andres Burruchaga is on a winning streak at present. Last week saw him win the Challenger Tour clay court event in Sao Paulo. He had previously made it to the final of the Rosario Challenger Tour tournament but now is making his presence felt at a higher level.

This week has seen him beat two seeded players. Fifth seed Brandon Nakashima was beaten in three sets in round two. He then defeated third seed Learner Tien in straight sets to reach this semi-final and extend his winning run on clay to eight matches and is a career-high 66th in the live rankings.

All three previous meetings between these two players were on clay and won by Burruchaga.

Thiago Agustin Tirante took Burruchaga to a deciding set in each of those three matches and is only five places below his opponent in the live list. He only lost five games in his first two matches this week. Then a major surprise was caused in the last eight as he beat top seed Ben Shelton after losing the opening set.
