Tanzania and Tunisia will face off in the third round of matches in Group C at the 2025 African Cup of Nations. Tunisia are second on three points, two better than Tanzania’s tally. There is still one automatic qualification slot for the two to battle for, and we have a prediction for this match.
Tanzania, hoping to reach the knockouts for the first time ever, aren’t favored by history. They’ve played 11 times at AFCON and have never won a match, losing seven. The East Africans conceded two or more goals in seven of the said 11 matches.
Meanwhile, Tunisia are on their 17th consecutive AFCON appearance. They have scored five times in their opening two games, making it a total of 104 goals at AFCON. In the 2013 tournament, they failed to advance to the knockouts despite winning their opening game. That was the last time it so happened, and they will be keen on avoiding a repeat 12 years later.

Tanzania - Tunisia: Form Analysis
Nigeria seem to have run away with top spot in Group C, but Tanzania will be hoping to join them. That will call for an improvement on their wretched record at this tournament.
In the current edition, they started off with a 2-1 loss to Nigeria. On matchday two, they couldn’t hold on to their lead in a 1-1 draw with Uganda. The one positive they carry to the third match is that they scored in both opening games.
Tanzania actually have a good scoring run at AFCON, netting in seven of their 11 games. They, however, scored in all three group matches only once—in 1980. 10 of Tanzania’s 11 AFCON matches saw at least one of the teams score.
In 11 outings at AFCON, Tanzania’s only goalless match was against DR Congo in 2023.
Tunisia will secure second place in this group if they avoid defeat. They head into the match having banked three points from their round one win, beating Uganda 3-1.
Matchday two was a much tougher clash as they fell 3-2 to fellow former champs Nigeria. The Carthage Eagles couldn’t soar past the Super Eagles, but they showed a glimpse of their fighting spirit.
Tunisia battled from 3-0 down in the match. Three wins in their last four matches mean Tunisia go into this game as outright favorites. In a match they need a win, they’ll be glad to take on a nation yet to win an AFCON game.

Tanzania & Tunisia Squad Analysis
Tanzania’s biggest strength coming to AFCON 2025 has been a team that has grown together. There could be murmurs about stars who have overstayed, but viewed otherwise, it could be an advantage.
Among them are Iraq-based midfielder Simon Msuva and Mbwana Samatta of Le Havre. Msuva scored in the last game and will be looking to extend that, having developed a good combination with Charles M’Mombwa.
Maltese-based M’Mombwa has had four goal involvements in Tanzania’s last three matches. He netted the equalizer against Nigeria.
Tunisia have emerged winners whenever Ellyes Skhiri scored.
Tunisia will do with some reorganization in midfield after Mohamed Ben Romdhane’s injury in the Nigeria game. The Al Ahly midfielder had to leave after 61 minutes. He will most likely be replaced by Sebastian Tounekti.
Defenders Montassar Talbi and Ali Abdi scored both goals against Nigeria, and coach Sami Trablesi will hope his attackers rise to the occasion.
Fortunately, he can count on Hannibal Mejbri’s creativity, with the Burnley midfielder on two assists so far at AFCON. Mohamed Achouri has two goals and will also be expected to produce the goodies for Tunisia.

Our Tanzania vs Tunisia Prediction
This will be the third time these two nations face off, and Tanzania have never emerged the winner. One of those two matches ended in a draw, and just like they are seeking a first win over Tunisia, they’ll be eyeing a first ever at AFCON.
Seven times in their 11 AFCON matches, Tanzania suffered defeat. It worsens their case that they are coming here on a really poor run of form. The East Africans are winless in nine matches, losing six times. Tunisia are on a much better run and are clear favorites here. Our prediction for Tanzania v Tunisia is that Tunisia wins.
Tanzania vs Tunisia - Other Interesting Predictions
Over 2.5 goals
These two nations have been involved in high-scoring matches lately. Tanzania’s last three have produced 12 goals, and Tunisia’s last four had the same tally.
With the stakes ahead of this game, we don’t expect either side to sit back. An end-to-end game can only mean we’ll have goals aplenty here. Therefore, our second prediction is over 2.5 goals.
