Hampden Park will be thronging this weekend as defending champions Celtic face St. Mirren in the Scottish League Cup Final. Both the Hoops and the Saints have been involved in some high-scoring encounters on their way to the final and with both teams in contrasting form heading into the game, it's going to be a tricky match on whic to make a prediction.
A quick look at their league position reveals Celtic currently lie second in the SPL Table with 32 points from 15 games, three points behind Hearts but with a game in hand. St. Mirren lie eighth with 14 points from 18 games. However, the Saints are unbeaten in seven League Cup games this season, scoring 19 goals into the bargain.
Celtic have won all of their three League Cup games, scoring 11 goals in those matches. The Celts defeated Rangers 3-1 after extra time in their semi-final with St.Mirren thrashing Motherwell 4-1 in their semi.
Recent form is problematic for Celtic. Since Wilfried Nancy took over as manager, Celtic were beaten 2-1 by Hearts in the league last weekend and then in midweek were well-beaten at home by AS Roma in the Europa League, going down to a 3-0 defeat.
St. Mirren's recent form is a little better. Their last two games both game in the league and saw them earn a creditable 3-3 draw away at Aberdeen and last weekend they defeated Dundee 2-0 at home.
