SPAL start the midweek Serie A fixtures sixth in the table with nine points from their five games.played. Their first three league games of the season all ended in a 1-0 scoreline, the first two of which saw wins for SPAL away at Bologna (currently in the bottom three) and at home to Parma. Their unbeaten record went when they lost 1-0 at Torino and all three games saw the only goal scored in the second half. Their best win of the season came when beating Atalanta 2-0 at home, again relying on second-half goals for the win. Not such a good result at the weekend though as they lost 3-0 to Fiorentina, no disgrace though considering Fiorentina have won all three home league games this season scoring ten and conceding just once. SPAL have won their last four home league games which is a massive improvement because they'd only won one of their previous 11. Seven of their last nine home league games have seen under 2.5 goals scored in them.

They host Sassuolo who are fourth in the table with a point more than their opponents. Sassuolo's season got off to a good start with seven points from their first three league games. That included a 1-0 home win over Inter and a thrilling 5-3 beating of Genoa at home They were lucky to still be unbeaten after those three games because they trailed 2-0 at Cagliari and needed a 99th minute goal to grab a point. Their unbeaten run ended not surprisingly when losing 2-1 at champions and league leaders Juventus, though they'll go down in the history books as the first team Cristiano Ronaldo scored against in Serie A as he scored twice in the second half. At the weekend Sassuolo got back in winning ways with a 3-1 home win over Empoli despite going one down in the first minute. Sassuolo have only won two of their last seven away league games and this should be a tight game with the tip being to go for a SPAL home win.
