Sheffield United and Bristol City will open their Championship campaigns in a repeat of their playoff clashes last season. Sheffield edged Bristol but fell in the final and will once again contest in the second tier. We have a prediction of this match below.

Sheffield United had a calamitous ending to the regular season as they fell out of contention for an automatic promotion slot. The last nail was hammered home by Sunderland in the playoff final, and the Blades will be keen to avoid going that route again.

They had a good run in preseason, winning their first four matches before closing with a 3-2 defeat to Nice. In the Championship, Sheffield have three wins in their last five.

Two of Sheffield’s last three competitive wins were against Bristol. The Robins conceded six times in those two meetings with Sheffield United. That extended their winless run in this fixture to nine matches.

Of those nine meetings, seven ended in defeat, which means the visitors come here as underdogs once again. After their fall to Sheffield in the playoffs, Bristol went into a four-match unbeaten run in preseason, winning three and keeping four straight clean sheets.

The main challenge here will be carrying that run of form to the Championship, where they haven't won in the last five, conceding at least twice in each.
