Week three in the 2023 Rugby World Cup will see Scotland take on Tonga on Sunday afternoon. Scotland are currently in third place in Pool B, while Tonga are one spot below them. Both sides are yet to register a point in the competition. Scotland came into the competition with high hopes and a good record that suggested they may have a chance of qualifying from a very difficult group. However, they got off to a poor start as they were beaten fairly comprehensively by South Africa on the opening weekend. After holding the Springboks to just six points in the first half, they were blown away early in the second period as the defending world champions scored two quick tries and were pretty much out of sight from then on. Still, Scotland are not out of it just yet, and a win with a bonus point here will put them right back in the mix. 

Meanwhile, Tonga’s lead-up to the World Cup was underwhelming, as they only managed to win two of their four warm-up matches. Both those wins were over Canada, while they lost to Japan and Samoa. They were up against the world's number one team Ireland in their opening match and were no match for the mighty Irish, who romped to a 59-16 win. However, while they did suffer a hefty defeat, there were several positives they would have taken from that result. Especially in their pack, who stood firm against their solid counterparts. Tonga came into this competition as the second-biggest underdog to qualify from this pool and are likely to find it difficult in this one. However, if they can manage to get on the scoresheet first, it could make for an interesting afternoon.
