Barangay Ginebra San Miguel went into the lead in this series after a hard-fought 99–90 win in Game 1. Tim Cone’s men dominated the first and final quarter by decisive margins to secure the shock victory. However, they couldn't replicate this impressive result in Game 2, squandering an eight-point lead and ultimately losing by nine points, bringing the series level at 1–1.  

On Friday, the three-time PBA Philippine Cup champions suffered their second consecutive defeat in the series, losing 91–84 to trail San Miguel Beermen 2–1. That result marked their fourth defeat in five PBA Philippine Cup games against San Miguel Beermen.
