Sampdoria have six points from their first three Serie A league games of the season. That's taken them into fourth place with a game in hand and they can go second if getting three more points with a win over Fiorentina. Their season didn't get off to a great start conceding in nine minutes and losing 1-0 at Udinese. It's improved since though with two convincing league wins starting with a 3-0 win over Napoli who finished second in the league last season. The goals continued to flow at the weekend with a 5-0 win at Frosinone with Defrel scoring twice for the second league game in a row. They have only lost two of their last 12 home games and will be difficult to beat here.

Fiorentina are in fifth place after two wins and a defeat in their opening three games. They won their first two fixtures starting off with a 6-1 thrashing of Chievo. That was followed by a 1-0 home win over Udinese with Benassi making it three league goals for the season. The weekend saw them play their first away league fixture and they lost their 100% record going down 1-0 at Napoli with the winner coming 11 minutes from time. That's three away defeats in their last four away league games. Sampdoria are in impressive form at present and they can get the home win in this game.
