Latvian side Rigas have a mountain to climb as they welcome Bodo/Glimt for the 2nd qualifying round return leg in the Champions League. Going into the match, do the hosts have what it takes to overturn a 4-0 deficit? Read on for the preview and prediction.
Rigas’ heavy loss away in Norway left their Champions League hopes in shambles. Bookies will have the visitors as favorites but Rigas will seek motivation from their 4-1 win against Tukums in their most recent outing.
They’ve also done well at home, with four straight wins coming here. However, none of their last four opponents at home seems close to matching Bodo/Glimt’s strength. The hosts are also relatively inexperienced in the Champions League, and that could cost them. This will only be Rigas’ sixth Champions League game, and they lost two of the previous five.
Bodo/Glimt could only draw 1-1 with KFUM after their rout of Rigas in the first leg. Ulrik Saltnes, who was on the mark against Rigas, scored his second goal in as many matches to snatch the draw with KFUM.
That marked their third unbeaten game and Bodo/Glimt have just one loss in the last nine matches. In 2022 the Norwegians reached the Champions League playoffs and will hope to go one better this time.
With a comfortable lead, they have one foot inside the next round and will be favorites here, despite playing away from home. In their last six Champions League matches, Bodo/Glimt suffered just one defeat. They have four wins and a similar number of clean sheets in that run. It isn’t rosy away from home in the Champions League though, as they have no win in five matches.
