Korea Republic were slow starters to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, losing 1-0 to New Zealand but recovered to finish top of Group B and secured their place in the quarters. They have a top clash in the last eight, against Mexico, the second place finishers in Group A. Both teams finished with six points in their group matches but Korea will be more confident in the manner of their two wins. They scored 10 goals in the two matches after falling to New Zealand. A 4-0 win over Romania on Match Day 2 and 6-0 over Honduras in the last group game saw them sail through, and with the two clean sheets, they will be fired up for the quarters. Korea have three clean sheets in their last five matches and they’ve scored in three of their last four matches.

Mexico were explosive in their 4-1 win over France in their opening game but slumped to a 2-1 loss to Japan before recovering with a 3-0 win over South Africa in the final group game. They have kept just one clean sheet in their three matches at this competition, against the weakest side, but credit to them for scoring in each of them. All their matches so far have seen over 2.5 goals scored and in Korea’s form we expect a high scoring affair here. In Mexico’s last two matches, they’ve had two players sent off and this will be one area they’ll want to address going into the latter stages of the competition.

Our South Korea vs Mexico Prediction

These two nations have done well at the games and going here it will be down to who defends better. Korea Republic had a slow start but picked up well thereafter. They have more goals and more clean sheets going into this game and will be looking to shock a Mexico side that hasn’t been very convincing, especially in defence. Go for a Korea Republic win.
