Portugal have been a regular at the World Cup, and the former is heading to North America for the current edition. This final international friendly game between them and Nigeria will be played at Estadio Dr. Magalhaes Pessoa, Portugal's home ground. With Selecao das Quinas avoiding defeat in nine home games (W6, D2), with seven of those encounters ending with over 2.5 goals, our prediction is for over 2.5 goals and a Portugal win.
Portugal arrives in good spirits, having gone four games without defeat, including back-to-back wins against the USA and Chile in their previous friendlies. That strong run of form has provided a timely boost for Selecao das Quinas as they put the finishing touches on their World Cup preparations, with the team placed in Group K.
Nigeria, meanwhile, couldn't secure World Cup qualification for the second consecutive time now after losing 4-3 on penalties against DR Congo in the FIFA World Cup African qualifiers play-off final. After that setback, the Super Eagles embarked on a trophy charge in the Africa Cup of Nations, but their journey ended in a 4-2 penalty shootout defeat to Egypt in a third-place playoff.

Portugal - Nigeria: Form Analysis
With just eight days left on the clock, Portugal are entering the final stretch of its build-up before heading to North America for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Selecao das Quinas have no real grounds for complaints regarding their performance as they enter this clash in fine form. They are unbeaten in their last four games, and a shock 2-0 away defeat to Ireland in World Cup qualifiers in November 2025 is the only defeat in 12 games across all competitions.
Roberto Martinez's men recently beat Chile in a 2-1 home victory with Goncalo Guedes and Bruno Fernandes getting on the scoresheet. This was their first international friendly game after seeing off the USA's threat in a 2-0 away win back in April.
Roberto Martinez has a 74.4% win ratio with Portugal in 39 games since taking over from Fernando Santos in January 2023.
Nigeria are also in terrific form heading into their final international friendly game. The West African nation are unbeaten inside 90 minutes in 12 matches (W8, D4) across all competitions.
The Super Eagles have impressed in international friendlies, with their last setback a 2-1 away defeat to Egypt in December 2025. Since then, they've gone five matches without defeat and will look to end on a positive note.
In their recent match, they were held to a nail-biting 2-2 draw against Robert Lewandowski's Poland in Warsaw.

Portugal & Nigeria Squad Analysis
While this is the final warm-up game before heading to North America for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, we expect Portugal to name a strong XI. Rafael Leao, however, won't take part in this match after being sent off in his recent friendly game.
That shouldn't be a deal breaker, as head coach Roberto Martinez has plenty of options to select from. Goncalo Guedes or Joao Félix are potential candidates to fill Leao's place on the left wing.
Veteran Cristiano Ronaldo led the attack last time out against Chile, registering three shots, but he did not manage to convert any into a goal. The 41-year-old could once again lead the attack and continue his influence in the final third as he aims for his 144th international goal.
Apart from being the all-time leading scorer in international football, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 25 goals in 30 matches under the leadership of Roberto Martinez.
Nigeria are also expected to field a strong XI in their final warm-up game. However, they remain without Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen, who have been excluded from the June international friendlies.
Eric Chelle could start Terem Moffi and Sevilla forward Akor Adams in front of goal. Moffi, who had a traumatic off-pitch incident with former club OGC Nice, which led to his departure to join Portuguese giants FC Porto, had a tough season with the club, scoring once in nine appearances.

Our Portugal vs Nigeria Prediction
This is a difficult test for both Portugal and Nigeria. Still, the latter could be on the wrong end of a narrow defeat in unfamiliar territory, considering their opponents have been a difficult team to beat at home (W6, D2).
The Super Eagles have faced Roberto Martinez's side just once before in November 2022 and lost 4-0 in an international friendly. With Portugal having scored a whopping 30 goals in 12 matches, a high-scoring encounter is definitely on the cards, with the home team walking away with a win. Our Portugal vs Nigeria prediction: Portugal wins and over 2.5 goals.
