The Portuguese Primeira Liga will host one of its biggest games this weekend, when Sporting Lisbon and FC Porto face off. Third-placed Porto will be at home to league leaders Sporting, the hosts seeking to rise from their recent struggles. We have the preview to this match and at least two predictions, just in case you feel like betting on this game.
Porto have gone into a slump in recent matches and as a result, have fallen eight points behind their visitors. Their seemingly impermeable home form is crashing, as they come here winless in two matches at Estadio Do Dragao.
For Porto, it isn’t the best time to take on Sporting, who have recently rediscovered their form. Sporting had a hard time after Ruben Amorim’s departure but they seem to be picking up the pieces. Ahead of this game they are unbeaten in seven matches, failing to win just two.

Porto - Sporting Lisbon: Form Analysis
FC Porto’s title hopes are fast fading but on Friday, they can make a big step towards salvaging that. A poor run so far in 2025 has seen the hosts drop to eight points behind Sporting in the title race.
They’ve also dropped a place, having finished 2024 in second, so there’s a lot to play for. Dropping 10 points from a possible 12 isn’t a run that will give the hosts much confidence.
There has already been a change in management as a response, but they have only one win in seven matches. In the latest of them, Porto rallied twice from behind to draw 2-2 with Rio Ave.
FC Porto are winless in their last two home matches.
Sporting Lisbon head into this game the more confident of the two sides. Rui Borges has established himself in the job and the post Ruben Amorim slump is gone.
Having beaten Porto in their last two meetings this season, Sporting will be revved up here. They are on a three-match unbeaten run, their most recent outing have seen them win 3-1 at home to Farense.
In the league, that was the third time in four matches that they scored three or more goals. It was also their seventh unbeaten outing in the league, and they’ve only lost once in 21 away league games.

Porto & Sporting Lisbon Squad Analysis
FC Porto will go into this game with a few injury concerns. A knee injury is sure to rule out the experienced Ivan Marcano. The Spaniard hasn’t played a league game this season.
Martim Fernandes and Marko Grujic are listed as doubtful, both having recently complained of muscular discomfort.
Leading scorer Samuel Omorodion will hope to rediscover his form in this game. The Spaniard has 13 goals in the league but has hit blanks in the last three matches.
Omorodion will hope to return to scoring ways in this match.
Sporting Lisbon’s own lead striker is a doubt in this game. Viktor Gyokeres, one of the most sought-after forwards, has been out with a thigh injury lately.
He hasn’t been ruled out of this yet but away fans will want to see the man on 22 league goals back. In case the Swede fails to make it in time, Trincão will be expected to shoulder the burden of leading the attack.
Confirmed absentees for the visitors include Pedro Goncalves and Nuno Santos. Hidemasa Morita is a doubt.

Our Porto vs Sporting Lisbon Prediction
Sporting Lisbon have woken up from their recent struggles and will head into this game holding the favorites’ tag. This will be the fourth meeting between the two sides and Sporting have beaten Porto in the last two. With a run of three straight wins in the league and unbeaten in seven, they have the necessary momentum.
Porto are limping right into this game and odds will be stacked against them even as they are unbeaten in eight home matches against Sporting. They are winless in four straight league matches. Our prediction for Porto v Sporting Lisbon is for Sporting Lisbon to win and both teams to score.
