The Phoenix Suns host the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Footprint Center for game three of the Western Conference playoffs first round. The Suns’ have their backs firmly against the wall after losing both of the opening two games in Minnesota. Game one ended in a 120-95 loss while game two finished in a 105-93 defeat. Phoenix had previously won three in a row to end the regular season, which included a 125-106 away win over the Timberwolves in the season finale. However, the Suns have had trouble breaking down what is statistically the best defense in the NBA in this series. They now face a must-win spot to avoid falling down 3-0 in what would surely be an untenable deficit. Phoenix will have the home fans behind them where they posted a 25-16 record in the regular season. 

The Timberwolves did exactly what was required of them in games one and two. They now come into the next two games with the objective of winning at least one, which would set up a potential close out situation when the series returns to Minnesota for game five. The Twolves stellar defense was on full display in the first two games, holding the deadly Suns’ offense to just 94.0 average points and under 100 points in consecutive games for the first time all season. Minnesota has now won three of its last four games overall and they will be feeling good heading into game three. On the road, the Timberwolves finished tied for the second best record in the Western Conference at 26-15. They finished the regular season as the top-rated defense, giving up a league-low 106.2 points per game.
