An Eastern Conference battle in the NBA sees the fifth-place Philadelphia 76ers playing host to the 11th-placed Brooklyn Nets. After seeing their NBA title hopes likely go up in flames after Joel Embiid’s meniscus injury against the Warriors, the Sixers bounced back positively in the next game. A 51-point explosion by young star point guard Tyrese Maxey led the way for Philadelphia to claim a 127-124 away win over the Utah Jazz at the Delta Center on Thursday. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for Philly and brought their record on the year to 30-17. This has them fifth in the East standings after slipping out of the top three seeds due to Cleveland and New York’s red hot winning runs. The 76ers remain close behind, trailing the Cavs and Knicks by a half game and one game and 1.0 games, respectively. 

Brooklyn saw their two game winning streak snapped by former Net Kevin Durant and the Suns in a 136-120 home loss on Wednesday. Durant dropped 33 on his old team to deal the Nets their 28th loss of the season. Now with a record of 19-28, the hope of qualifying for the NBA Playoffs seems like a pipe dream for this Brooklyn squad. Granted, they trail 10th-place Atlanta, and a possible place in the Play-in tournament, by 1.5 games, but it would likely be difficult for this team to beat a higher-seeded team twice in a row. They’ll try to get back on track here but have struggled all season to manage consistent results on the road. Brooklyn is decent at the Barclays Center with a 12-13 record but have found road wins hard to come by as they have managed just seven in 22 trips.
