Tenth seed Ons Jabeur will face Elina Svitolina in a third round match at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The fourth career encounter between the two will have the winner take on Harriet Dart or Wang Xinyu in the quarter-finals. Jabeur defeated Svitolina 2-0 the last time they met, in 2021 at the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic.
Finishing second has been Jabeur’s story in her last few appearances at SW19. The Tunisian lost in the final in the last two seasons and will hope for a better run this time. Fitness issues caused her a slow start to the year but she has improved in recent weeks.
Across the last two months, she got 14 of her 16 wins, six being on grass. She has however dropped out of the WTA top 10 and is currently 14th in the live ranking. Jabeur, yet to lose a set in this major, defeated qualifier Robin Montgomery in the second round.
Svitolina has beaten Jabeur twice in three meetings and will be hoping to maintain this advantage. The Ukrainian has also experienced previous success at Wimbledon most recently being last year. Returning to the event after a one-year hiatus, the Ukrainian battled to qualify for the semi-finals.
This was her second appearance in the last four. She isn’t the favorite here but Svitolina will be full of confidence thanks to her past performance at Wimbledon. The 29-year-old has a 20-12 record and has won twice in three outings on grass. She began her grass campaign with a first-round loss in Bad Homburg but made up for this with back-to-back wins.
To advance to this round, she defeated Jule Niemeier by the loss of seven games. That was a more assured performance than her round-one battle where she needed to win a decider to progress. Despite her strong start at the All England Club, Svitolina has dropped 17 places in the live ranking. She is now placed 38th after losing 650 ranking points.

Jabeur has had a dominant start to her Wimbledon campaign and is yet to lose a set in two rounds played. Finishing second in the last two seasons should build her belief. The Tunisian is an exceptional grass court player and is having a strong run once again on the surface.
This, however, won’t be a smooth ride for her. Svitolina is capable of causing an upset as she looks to build on her run to the semis last season.
