Basavareddy had to play two qualifying matches to reach this main draw and did so without dropping a set. He recently won the outdoor hard court San Diego Challenger Tour event played in September. On indoor hard courts, the American has won six of his seven matches played this year with a quarter-final in the Lille Challenger Tour tournament in February.

There's been one previous meeting between these players. Basavareddy won that in last year's outdoor hard court Winston Salem Open.

Raphael Collignon is the world number 55, but he is not in great form at present. The Spaniard has lost his last six matches since making it to the final of a clay court tournament in Gstaad in mid-July. He won the Pau Challenger Tour indoor hard court tournament in February.

This is his first tournament since August's US Open.
