Nikola Bartunkova, the fourth seed at WTA Prague, begins her tournament in the first round against unseeded Yuan Yue. Their first career meeting looks tough for Yue, who is on seven straight defeats and not favored by this prediction.

Bartunkova will play in the main draw of her home country’s WTA tournament for the first time. The 20-year-old had failed to fight her way out of the qualifying rounds in her three previous appearances here.

This year, her performances have lifted her in the world rankings to where she hasn’t been required to start from the preliminaries here. Bartunkova, who is having her best season on tour, has compiled a 25-15 record.

She has competed largely on tour, producing career finishes in Rome, Wimbledon, and Melbourne. Starting the week as the world number 43, Bartunkova is coming off a third-round finish at SW19.

Yuan Yue comes into this week in desperate need of a win and to spark a sustained run of positive results. The Chinese star has struggled this campaign and, at the moment, has lost seven matches in a row.

Yue, whose last win was in the qualifiers in Rome back in May, has compiled a 19-21 record. A one-time top 40-ranked player, she has seen her rise in the world rankings stall.

Yue has now dropped outside the top 100 places and starts her week placed 121st in the live ranking.
