Sydney FC will look to maintain their lead at the top of the 2025-26 A-League competition as they visit a struggling Newcastle United Jets on matchday nine. This match on Saturday in New Lambton between the eighth-placed Jets and the top-placed Sky Blues comes with our prediction of an away win.

The Jets have nine points (W3, L5) and are only a point above the teams directly below. Sydney’s 18 points (W6, L2) put them one point above the second-placed Auckland FC ahead of this round.

Newcastle won 3-1 away at Wellington Phoenix last weekend for their second win across the last three games (L1). Those two remain their only victories across their last six fixtures (L4).

The Jets have struggled at home recently, as they were beaten in all three of their recent home league games. That included a 4-1 defeat in November against Sydney FC.

Sydney’s last match was a 1-0 win away at Perth Glory last weekend for a second win in a row. It was also their sixth win over the last seven league games, understandably pushing them to the top of the standings.

Both of their defeats this league campaign have come on the road, but Sydney seems to have decoded their away struggles recently. They have won three of the last four league trips including two in a row.
