The Minnesota Timberwolves will conclude their 2023/24 regular season NBA campaign by hosting the Phoenix Suns. They are currently second in the Western Conference while the Suns are down in seventh. If the standings remain as is after the play-in, the Timberwolves will battle the Suns in the first round. The Timberwolves can snatch the number one seed in the West. They will however have to win and hope that current conference leaders OKC do not. Chris Finch’s men are in a three-way tie on the same record with the Thunder and the third-placed Nuggets. All three teams have won 56 of 81 games. The T-Wolves got back to winning ways last time out after they had lost their hold on top spot with defeat in Denver. They defeated the Hawks 109-106 at home. The match saw Karl Anthony-Towns make his long-awaited return from injury. His return to fitness is a big boost with the playoffs just around the corner. If the standings remain the same after this round, the Timberwolves will battle the Suns in the first round. Jaylen Clark remains sidelined and isn’t expected to play a part here. Minnesota have averaged 115.3 points over their last three games.

The Suns are also in desperate need of closing out the regular season with a win. Frank Vogel’s men are seeking to avoid playing in the play-in and qualify directly for the playoffs proper. The Suns, who have compiled a 48-33 record, are one game back on the top six. Just like the Timberwolves, however, destiny isn’t in their hands. Phoenix need to win and hope that the Pelicans, who occupy the final playoff spot, lose their final fixture. If this doesn’t happen, they will most likely battle the Lakers in the play-in for the seventh seed. The Suns have won their last two matches which have all been road games out in the West against playoff-contending teams. They defeated the Kings 108-107 last time with only long-term absentee Damion Lee missing the game. The Suns, who have won three straight against the Timberwolves, have averaged 108 points over their last three outings.
