With nothing to separate between them in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup tournament, Meralco Bolts will host San Miguel Beermen with both sides looking to move up into the top-four. Both teams have a 3-2 win-loss record and are stacked in the fifth-eighth bracket. With the fourth-ranked Phoenix Super PLG Fuel Masters only a win away, this match could be crucial in deciding how the tournament will shape up for Meralco and San Miguel.

Meralco’s season has been up and down all through so far. They started with a 116-98 loss at Phoenix and then quickly bounced back with a win of 93-81 against Alaska. This was followed by another loss as Ginebra got the better of Meralco in a 105-91 result. Taking the game deep into OT, Meralco got the better of Magnolia in the next game and they followed it up with another win against Road Warriors. With back-to-back wins under their belt, Meralco will hope that they can trigger their fighting spirit and keep the momentum going.

San Miguel’s season nearly mirrors what Meralco’s season has been. They started the season with a 94-78 win over Magnolia and then slumped to back-to-back losses – a 87-83 loss to Rain or Shine and then a 107-88 reverse against San Miguel. However, Beermen arrested the slide and went on a two-match winning run following that loss. Columbian Dyip were edged past 105-98 and then it was Alaska’s turn to lose to San Miguel 92-88 to make it three wins for the season. With teams sitting third and fourth lined up in two of the next three matches, San Miguel would be keen on making this match count for a win and move up the table.
