Marketa Vondrousova and Magdalena Frech, both unseeded, will meet in the opening round of the 2026 Brisbane International. Vondrousova has never lost against Frech and will be eager to maintain this 100% record and start the new season on a high. Read on for our prediction of the match.

Vondrousova was plagued by injuries throughout 2025 and could only compete in 12 events in the year. She finished with an 18-10 record, winning the Berlin title and producing quarter-final finishes at Flushing Meadows and Abu Dhabi.

The 2023 Wimbledon champion would end the year ranked outside the WTA’s top 30 for a second successive season. Vondrousova, who is making her Brisbane debut, is unbeaten against Frech.

Magdalena Frech ended 2025 with a third-round finish in Wuhan. The previous campaign proved difficult for the Pole, as she lost 25 of 40 fixtures contested.

Unable to play past the quarter-finals, French would end the year in 59th place in the world, her lowest year-end rank in two seasons. French is making her main draw debut in Brisbane.

She first played here seven years ago and was unable to navigate her way out of the qualifying rounds. Among French’s losses in 2025 was a 2-1 setback to Vondrousova in the second round of the French Open.
